Finale of Rett Ride Across America

The final day began with 9 riders making their way from downtown Pasadena to the Santa Monica Pier.  Everyone expected rain but it turned out to be a glorious day!  As we got closer to the beach we could see water periodically and it made all of want to get there quicker. I can tell you that no one wanted to get there faster than I did! We made our way down to the pier and right below us next to the Bubba Gump restaurant was a bunch of Purple Balloons and several Rett Families. There were even some members of my family there to give us an Atta-boy too! It was awesome to have someone to share the experience with! We got a few pictures and then I made my way down to the beach so I could walk my bike into the surf for an official “Wheels in the Water” ceremony and a moment of prayer to thank God for allowing me to finish safely. Then we went inside and had lunch and shared some stories about the trip. I also made sure that all the folks from California really knew what a Red Neck is. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful finale.  The Rett Family made me feel like it was worth it and appreciated!  I am truly humbled!

Once lunch was over, Joey and I headed to Phoenix.  Joey flew home this morning and is still in the air as I right this update. Rett Dad Richard Burke flew into Phoenix last night to help me drive back.  My wife knows that I sometimes tend to drive by brail.  I will be giving you more pics and more info in the coming days.

Thanks everyone, Rett Rider

Day 28 was only 51 miles. The roads were pretty darn good and it got warmer as the day went on. I have to pay a compliment to the people of California. We got more honks of encouragement and cheers out the window than anywhere else! The people were awesome!
We finished at a Target store downtown Pasadena at 777 East Colorado Blvd. where we’re going to start the funride at 9:00 tomorrow morning.
A brief shout out to my brother in law, Joey Bass for taking his vacation from his job and flying into El Paso Tx. ThAnks Joey!

Day 26 Rett Ride Across America

To start the day off we had to drive back 45 miles into the Mojave Desert.  It started with an 8 mile climb!  NOT a good way to start your day!  We had quite a few more climbs today and ended with a 4 mile down hill that I had to grip the brakes all the way and I still maintained 40 mph.  It was very scary!  But not a bad way to end the day!
As I draw closer to the finish line of this ride I would like you to think about your roll in bringing the treatment or cure for Rett Syndrome across the finish line too!  All of us need to be proactive in our efforts and donations to bring this to fruition!  I’m a great believer in TEAM! Together Everyone Achieves More!  If everyone does a little, a lot can be accomplished in a shorter amount of time.  The Pepsi Challenge proved that a big thing can be accomplished if enough people believe it can and do their part!  I have to admit, I forgot to vote on some days myself.  How about you?   TEAM We Need Your Help!

Day 24 Rett Ride Across America

We started in Parker Az. and entered California almost immediately. That begins the Mohave Desert. As far as you can see there’s sand that kinda looks like water as it laps up against the mountains. The temp was only 82 and there was a steady breeze. There were times when we had rain on each side of us but we didn’t get wet once. It seems as though the Lord has put an umbrella over us ever since the second day. That was the only day of rain since the beginning. I appreciate all of your prayers for safety and good weather! Your messages, txts and e-mail have been a blessing and a source of encourage

ment to keep up the good fight. I want all of you to know that as long as my rearend holds out I WON’T QUIT! I will admit, it is getting close! We bought some special bandages and medicine for it this morning.
For those of you in California that would like to ride with us on the last leg, be at 777 East Colorado Blvd. In Pasadena at 9:00 Saturday morning. We’ll see ya then.
Ask someone for there help today and tell them that no donation is too small. Maybe sponsor the ride for a penny or nickle a mile!

Day 23 Rett Ride Across America

Day 23 we surpassed our goal of Wickenburg AZ by almost 30 miles This allow us to also surpass the 2,000 mile mark and get within 90 miles of the CA State Line.

It was almost 7 hours on the bike but it was worth it! There was a tremendous amount of climbing the last 12 Miles.

Our goal tomorrow is to cross the CA. State Line. That milestone is like coming around the far turn and heading into the home stretch in a horse race. We’re committed to take it across the finish line!

We need you to help us help the researchers by making donations and more importantly telling everyone you know and everyone you come to know about the story or our Rett Kids.

Just sponsor the ride for a Penny per mile and find 3 other people to do the same thing.

Please take action today. No more talkin about it, use the Nike philosophy and “Just Do It”!

Day 22 – Rett Ride Across America

Day 22 ended with a cruise on board Capt. Kevin Steel’s yacht, the “Stayin Alive”. It was a great break from the road. Kevin is a Rett Grandad that opened up his home to Joey and I and took great care of us!

Our goal city for tomorrow is Wicksburg AZ. If we get beyond our goal we should surpass 2,000 miles also. We also want to make sure that we are close enough to the CA state line that we can cross it on Monday.

I was once told by a Self Made Billionaire, mentor of mine that you first Must have Big Vision and second you have to be Willing to Pay the Price to make it come to fruition. Last but not least, you Have to See the Job Through to completion!

Most of you know that the research for a cure or treatment for Rett Syndrome has come a long way in the past 10 years. I would hate to see all of that progress go to waist due to a lack of funds. We need your help. No donation is to small. Please tell someone the story of our Rett Kids and then ask them to make a donation. It can make a difference. Won’t you help us help our Rett Kids! We Must See The Job Through!

Day 21 Rett Ride Across America

Digg me

Day 21 was a very difficult day to get on the bike and begin the process of at least another 100 miles.

The day started out, cold with very rough roads but at least they were flat. After 10 miles it was slowly up hill for about 20 miles then the climbing began for about 20 more miles. From that point on it was either down hill or flat with great road surface. We made great time from that point on and finished in less than 6 hours.

Our goal was to reach Safford AZ. And we got 30 miles beyond our goal. Ya never know when you are going to make great strides during a long battle!

This is how it goes with research too. Momentum is everything! To continue the forward momentum towards a treatment or cure of Rett Syndrome, it requires the funds to do so. Please help us help our kids!

Day 20 was a great day!

We were able to get 100 miles in even though we had 6 flat tires! The thorns in New Mexico are brutal! We now will be posting video’s since we were given a gift of a video camera by the Medeiros family in LA. Thanks guys! You’re awesome!

We are in Silver City NM and the scenery is incredible. However I must say that the more beautiful it is the harder the riding becomes.

Our goal for tomorrow is Safford AZ. and Saturday, Phoenix. I will keep you all posted as we determine what follows.

I am proud to announce that we will finish in Santa Monica at noon on Saturday Oct. 23rd! There are a lot of exciting things coming together!

Phoenix Radio Station KYOT, 95.5 featured the ride this morning. Maybe we”ll stop in and see those guys.

More later everybody, tell someone the story of our Rett Kids today and send them to the website and make sure they know that there’s No Donation Too Small! ! !

Day 18 – Rett Ride Across America

Day 18 was an incredible day! We finished the day with plenty of day light for a change.

My thanks goes out to James Cross as gets ready to head back to Daphne, Alabama. He was awesome as a support person. Leadership through service comes natural to him though.

My brother-in-law, Joey Bass is flying in from Mobile tomorrow to take over where James left off.

We are hearing from people all over the country! It’s awesome to feel the support for what we are attempting to do. Raising awareness for our special angels is not a chore, it’s a Blessing!

Of course I’ve asked my self, “what have you gotten yourself into” then I take a look into one little Rett Angel’s eyes and get all the motivation I need. They can’t give up on us because we are all they have! So we won’t give up on our mission for them! WE WILL SEE IT THROUGH TO THE END! !

I’m excited to announce that I got another message from a little girl that wants to be a Rett Rider and she is going to do a Rett Ride on her bicycle around her neighborhood. Way to go Jess!

We hear that we had a great feature story on WKRG in Mobile tonight in Mobile Al. They have been following the story from the beginning. I think they will help us get our story out to the masses!

Tomorrow is an off the road activity day, we may have something to report so stay tuned.

I also have to mention that we stopped in and visited the folks at Crazy Cat Cyclery in El Paso and they were not only helpful, they did a great job and agreed to help us spread the word about our Angels! What a great place to do business if you’re a cyclist!

Today was a huge day! After climbing Guadeloupe Mountain we surpassed 1500 miles and also reached the point that means we are less than 1000 miles away from Santa Monica Ca.

All the Face Book messages, texts and e-mails have been a tremendous help! Thanks everyone for the encouragement!

Have your kids stated a Rett Ride for the month of Oct.? If so let me know and well track their progress and also give them some ideas.

It was a great day! God Blessed us in many ways.
